Women who is affected by traumatic events can develop a variety of emotional and physical problems. Mental health problems are caused by traumatic experiences,
which include childhood physical or sexual abuse. when adults experience serious life-threatening events such as war,
robbery, assault or a workplace accident Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can result. the after-effects of violent and ongoing
childhood abuse is described as the term " The term “complex PTSD”. The child’s natural developmental milestones os interrupted by abuse and results in severe impairment in
adulthood. Trauma is experienced by men also. women are more likely to experience childhood sexual abuse, rape and domestic assault. Trauma is experienced and responded by each women in her own unique way. All of these factors can shape how a woman responds
to trauma:
Nature of the trauma
when it occurred
for how long it occurred
relationship between the woman and the perpetrator
The most severe impact occurs when the abuse:
starts early in life
is violent
is prolonged with little or no opportunity for escape
is perpetrated by someone who is in a familial or caregiving role
Sexual or physical abuse is experienced by many women who are diagonised with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders.
